What Does It Mean To Be Thankful?
Thanksgiving is one of my favorite Holidays. It is so because it’s simply about being Thankful and spending quality time with family & friends. For several years, I prayed & asked Jesus to give me a loving godly husband and children. That prayer was answered in 2011… I remember for many Thanksgivings I watched others enjoy the blessing of a spouse and children, some we’re thankful, some we’re not. Being thankful does not mean that everything goes perfectly or everyone has perfect behavior. Nor does it mean that you have no needs or wants. In order for one to be thankful, you must simply have a paradigm shift, see with fresh eyes, or maybe change your philosophy on what is required to create thankfulness in your heart. I believe being thankful simply means taking the time to reflect on the people in your life and how they have value, how they have added value & joy to your life, & thinking how empty your life would be without them. Also to realize that those people in your life are a gift to you from Jesus, maybe you should take the time to carefully unwrap your gift and find the treasure inside that awaits you. I also believe being thankful means looking around at what you do have, take an account of those many blessings you do have instead of recounting all the things you desire but don’t yet have. You see, when it was still waiting for my gifts of a husband and children; I had to come to the place of being thankful for the many blessings and gifts Jesus had already given me instead of focusing on the gifts I desired. It was at that time, while being wrapped up in enjoying my life and the many blessings I had; suddenly my prayer became a reality-my gifts and blessings.
Today, Thanksgiving 2013; we started our day continuing with the family tradition of watching Macy’s Thanksgiving Day Parade together in our pj’s… Then it was on! I started cooking like crazy. The kids and I took “selfies” & “together selfies” LMBO!!! We do have great fun!!! Then came time to say our blessing and grace & eat the huge buffet of food spread out. Thomas prayed, as did his father, priceless moment! While enjoying our feast there were many stories of the kids when they were babies, stories of Thomas from his childhood days, stories of grandma & grandpa and so much laughter for several hours. Things money can never buy! Next, we moved into the living room to watch family videos together, and take tons of pictures; while continuing the celebratory feast with dessert and coffee.
There is so much to be thankful here… Today we created memories together as a family, that will become tomorrow’s joys to reminisce over… I constantly try remind myself among to hustle and busyness of life, to stop and enjoy the gifts that Jesus has blessed me with. So with that said, Jesus thank you for my soulmate best friend of a husband, thank you for my children who I adore and feel privileged to love, and the god-family you’ve given me, and my friends. I value each and every person that I have the honor of sharing life with. So to all of you, I Love You so very much, Thank You & Happy Thanksgiving!
